100 Miles in Antarctica

Six Continents, One Bicycle at a Time
Some rides take you farther than others.
For Emily and Sunnie, that meant all the way to Antarctica.
The two first met while training for a century supporting Breakthrough T1D, formerly JDRF. From there came a much bigger idea: ride 100 miles on every continent while raising awareness and support for causes close to their hearts.
By January 2026, their bikes had made it to Antarctica for continent number six.
And Antarctica made them earn every mile.

A Century Unlike Any Other
Snow. Ice. Fat bikes. Sub-freezing temperatures. And katabatic winds regularly blowing more than 25 mph.
With the support of White Desert and its experienced Antarctic guides, Emily and Sunnie had to work within relatively small windows when conditions were safe enough to ride.
What they initially hoped to complete in two days ultimately became 100 miles spread across three and a half days and roughly 16 hours of riding.
At times, the wind was so relentless they found themselves working harder riding downhill than back uphill.
Through fatigue, cold, sore muscles, and old injuries, they kept moving.
One mile at a time.
Until 100 became 100.

Riding for Something Bigger
The miles are only part of the story.
Emily and Sunnie first met while training for a century supporting Breakthrough T1D. The cause is deeply personal: Sunnie’s son lives with Type 1 Diabetes, while the son of one of Emily’s friends does as well.
Their seven-continent journey has since grown to support ovarian cancer causes following the loss of a fellow rider and teammate.
What began with a bike ride has become a way to explore the world, challenge themselves, and use every mile to bring attention to causes that matter.

A Little Help Goes a Long Way
Riding 100 miles in Antarctica takes more than determination—and considerably more planning than your average century.
Emily and Sunnie relied on White Desert to help make the journey possible, from logistics and accommodations to experienced guides who helped them navigate Antarctica’s constantly changing conditions and determine when it was safe to ride.
White Desert is also connected to the White Desert Foundation, which supports scientific research and conservation efforts in Antarctica. It’s another organization Emily and Sunnie encourage people to learn more about and support.
On the bikes, we’re proud ALMSTHRE could play a small part in carrying what they needed along the way.
Their setups included our Signature Bar Bag and Stem / Feed Bag, with an Insulated Bivo Trio from our friends at Bivo tucked into the Stem Bag. Food, hydration, extra layers, and other essentials stayed close at hand in a place where keeping yourself warm, fueled, and moving was part of every day’s strategy.
It’s hard to imagine a better example of why we make bike bags in the first place: carry what you need and see where your bike takes you.
In this case, pretty far.

Six Continents and Counting
Antarctica marked the sixth continent in Emily and Sunnie’s seven-continent goal.
The original plan was to head to Chile this December and complete the journey in South America. Those plans are now temporarily on hold while Emily recovers from a torn rotator cuff, which will keep her off the bike for approximately nine months.
The seventh century will have to wait a little longer.
But that's also part of a journey like this.
For now, there are six continents, hundreds of miles, countless stories, and a lot of good accomplished along the way.
South America will still be there when they're ready.
We’re proud to have been a small part of the journey so far, and we’ll be following along when the wheels start turning again.
