WHO iS Lance Haidet: A Chat with  "Lancy Pants"

In the world of cycling, there are those who pedal through life with a unique flair, both on and off the bike. Lance, affectionately known as "Lancy Pants," embodies this spirit with a blend of passion for the sport and a laid-back demeanor that makes every ride an adventure. In a recent chat, Lance talks about his journey from cyclocross to gravel racing, his unique recovery rituals, and his love for the outdoors beyond the bike.

A Unique Moniker

The conversation kicks off with the origin of Lance's nickname, "Lancy Pants." With a chuckle, Lance admits that the name stuck from his childhood days, coined by buddies who found humor in his quirky moniker. Little did he know that it would become synonymous with his persona, even in the professional racing circuit. Despite initial doubts about its pro-sounding nature, Lance has come to embrace it, recognizing its resonance with fans and fellow cyclists alike.

A Season of Ups and Downs

Reflecting on the current season, Lance shares insights into his recent races, from triumphs to setbacks. A standout performance at BWR Arizona was followed by challenges at BWR Utah and Sea Otter, where a training mishap left him nursing a cracked rib. Yet, undeterred by adversity, Lance remains focused on the upcoming events, including BWR San Diego and Traka Spain, each holding a promise of new experiences and achievements.

Cyclocross, MTB and Gravel

Lance’s skills on the bike are very apparent if you’ve ever seen him ride. Having a diverse  background in bike sports including cyclocross and mountain biking as well as non bike activities like club soccer, cross country skiing and running has allowed him to adapt quickly to the growing sport of Gravel.

Ice Tea

Lance and the rapper, later turned actor on one of my favorite shows (Law & Order) are homies. Not much more needs to be said about this… See video for more.

Beyond the Bike

Away from the podium and training regimen, Lance finds solace in simple pleasures and outdoor pursuits. Whether dipping his toes into the ocean for a natural ice bath or casting a line while kayak fishing along the coast, he cherishes the moments of tranquility and connection with nature that rejuvenate both body and soul.

Looking Ahead

As the interview draws to a close, Lance shares his excitement for the challenges that lie ahead, both on and off the bike. With a blend of determination and humility, he approaches each race and adventure with a sense of gratitude and anticipation, knowing that every twist and turn of the journey is a part of the ride.

Belgian the F*ck Up: BWR Montana Brings the Pain to Bozeman

The inaugural Belgian Waffle Ride Montana didn’t just arrive in Bozeman—it kicked the door down, left tire tracks through the living room, and poured a cold recovery beer on the way out. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Montana’s vast gravel playgrounds, the first-ever BWR MT delivered a day that tested the sadists of the saddle and gave us the “Hell of the Bozone” in all its glory.
